Freeza
Completed on September 28, 1998

Realizing I was most likely ready to expand my skillset out of abstract drawings into things like humanoids and such, I figured since I was in Japan to do the obvious thing and get into anime styles. One of my first targets was the awesome style of Akira Toriyama.

This is of Freeza, who many people probably know of these days. I chose to draw it because of the irony in its design - here you have an artist who usually draws with very thunderous, exaggerated designs, but freeza is a rose among weeds, with his plastic-like feel and rounded edges. However, he retains the trademark Toriyama face and gaze, which alone still manages to easily offset him from anything drawn by anyone else.
