Now that you have compiled a binary for the Emotion Engine of the Playstation 2 it's time to upload the whole thing to the PS2. For this purpose the people over at Napalm wrote Naplink, a Client-Server solution that let's the PC transfer binaries via the USB Connectiono to your PS2.

First please get the Naplink 1.0.1a Playstation 2 ISO and the NapClient 1.0.2b Win32 Client.

  • Firstly burn the naplink-ps2-v1.0.1a.iso file (included in the first Package on the top) with the following settings (CdrWin is a good choice here)

    CD-Rom XA - Mode 2

  • You can check whether or not your burn was successful by booting the disc on your Playstation 2 (NOTE: if you have your PS2 fitted with Neo2.2 you have to boot like every other backup using Action Replay or GameShark)

  • Now unpack the napclient-win32-v1.0.2b.zip Archive to a directory of your choice.

  • Now plug-in your USB cable (PL-2301 or PL-2302 compatible) and Windows will ask you to install new drivers for the newly found hardware

  • When Windows asks for the driver do not choose "automatically install driver" (sorry, I don't have an English Windows running so the wording will be wrong) but rather choose "install driver from a list..."

  • On the next screen choose something like "do not search for driver..."
(NOTE: if someone can provide me the English terms please drop me a line)

  • Now choose "Have Disk" and browse to the location where you unpacked the archive and choose the device that is listed there (Profilic PL-2301 Cable)

  • Now connect the other end of the USB cable to your Playstation 2.

  • Start up napclient.exe

(this window should appear if you cable has been detected)

  • Now boot up the NapLink Playstation2 Disc. Once the NapLink screen appears on your TV the Naplink Window should change to the following

(Naplink window after Naplink-PS2 has been booted)

    NOTE:
The Reset and Execute buttons are only available when both sides of Naplink are loaded. You can use the Reset button to reboot the Naplink Server without the need to reload the CD !

  • Now press the Execute button and in the upcoming File browser choose your compiled .ELF File.

  • The Naplink Client will now upload your binary to your PS2 and show it's success in the Log.

(Naplink log after a successful upload of an .elf file)

  • You should now see your ELF's output on your TV screen !

You have now successfully tested your binary on your Playstation 2 .

Go to the Naplink home at Napalm [currently offline]
