DCDEV: Making a Selfboot CD Tutorial
Posted: November 24th, 2001 @ 11:29 GMT

I just uploaded my tutorial on how to make a selfbooting CDs from your compiled ELF file (this is based on Marcus Comstedts tutorials, so major credits go to him). I also uploaded pre-compiled Cygwin binaries of cdrecord, mkisofs, scramble and makeip.

You can find the tutorial here.

DCDEV: Small corrections in Cygwin/KOS Tutorials
Posted: November 20th, 2001 @ 18:51 GMT

I corrected some minor (and major) mistakes in some DCDEV tutorials which prevented KOS to compile successfully. (Thanks to Cyrus for the feedback) I also added some notes on compiling CVS-KOS.

I will also type up and post a guide here on how to burn your own programs on CD's so that you can give them to friends who don't have a BBA or coders cable.

Since nobody reported problems with the Ghettoplay-Vorbis image I will consider it working.

DCDEV: Discjuggler 3.5 Image of Ghettoplay-Vorbis
Posted: November 18th, 2001 @ 14:49 GMT

I just uploaded a Discjuggler 3.5 Image of Ghettoplay-Vorbis. Mind you, this small player is based on Ghettoplay (by Dan Potter, which is included in the KOS distro) and was never meant to be a full player but a way to test my library. (the sources of Ghettoplay Vorbis are in the KOS sourcecode distribution).

It can already be used as a very basic Ogg/Vorbis Player for the Dreamcast. Since there's no instructions coming along with it, here are the button controls:

A = Star playback of currently highlighted song (red highlight)
B = Stop playback of currently playing song
Y = Mark song for playlist

NOTE: When in playlist mode, the B button cycles to the next song. Once all songs are finished the playlist is being reset !

I don't take credit for anything than the Ogg/Vorbis library. The rest of the player has been written by Dan Potter !

You can download the Discjuggler 3.5 image here.
(The file is now being stored on a Tripod account since my webspace provider limits the monthly bandwidth I may use and I try not to exceed it. If the download makes trouble let me know !)

NOTE: I hope that the image is valid. I made it from a working burn of Ghettoplay Vorbis. Please let me know if it fails to burn or run !!

PS2DEV: NAPLINK - USB Upload Utility ?
Posted: November 13th, 2001 @ 19:01 GMT

A Playstation 2 USB uploader has been released by Napalm called Naplink. It allows the user to upload self-coded ELF binaries (in both EE and IOP format) and execute them on the PS2.

I did not yet test it myself yet so I can not give first-hand information on how it works exactly. But I will look into it and post results later this week. But feel free to visit the homepage and download it yourself.

The homepage of this project is located here.

DCDEV: what's up next ?
Posted: November 12th, 2001 @ 17:23 GMT

Although sndoggvorbis is now part of the KOS distribution I will not stop working on it. Time permitting I will also continue work on my own player application that will use my library.

I will also put up projects pages with hopefully useful informations on upcoming projects.

Also, if anyone is going to use sndoggvorbis please let me know of your results, problems you run into, bugs you find, features you're missing. Just anything that could make sndoggvorbis better.

DCDEV: sndoggvorbis now in KOS-CVS tree
Posted: November 12th, 2001 @ 11:29 GMT

It's done, Dan Potter included my sndoggvorbis sources to the KOS sourcetree. If you download the KOS sources from CVS (or the 1.1.5 release) you'll also get the sndoggvorbis sources (including the Ghettoplay-Vorbis example).

The examples in the examples directory show how to primary use the library.

If you have problems using the library or suggestions ideas, please feel free to contact me.

You may want to head over to the KOS sourceforge project page.

DCDEV: sndoggvorbis to be included in 1.1.5 release of KOS
Posted: November 11th, 2001 @ 11:42 GMT

Earlier today I sent my current sndoggvorbis sources to Dan Potter for inclusion in the KOS CVS repository (and also into the upcoming KOS 1.1.5 release).

It still lacks some stuff I wanted to see in it (like the seeking feature) but I would say it's already usable for most people.

I will still be working on it and will also update it to coming decoder library releases (Xiph.org is working on release of RC3 of the en-/decoder libraries) as well as include the still missing features.

Keep an eye at the official KOS site or the sourceforge project page for more information on the upcoming 1.1.5 release.

DCDEV: sndoggvorbis compiles on CVS-KOS with small changes
Posted: November 09th, 2001 @ 20:12

After some minor changes have been made to two KOS files (namely vsprintf.c and floatio.h) everything compiles cleanly (due to the fact that the two functions isnan and isinf which are being used by Ogg/Vorbis are now defined in KOS and in libm there has been a collision).

So there's not too much anymore preventing a preliminary binary release of the library this weekend. The sources will be merged into the KOS tree so I won't release them here.

Just wanted to keep you posted.

DCDEV: sndoggvorbis binary a bit delayed
Posted: November 09th, 2001 @ 19:19

The already announced release of a sndoggvorbis binary that can be used in own projects has been delayed a bit since there are some problems compiling programs (specifically the Ghettoplay-Vorbis example I put in) that are using newer CVS KOS releases.

I'm still quite busy in real-life so please only expect sporadic updates within the next weeks. But be assured that work on sndoggvorbis still continues until it's ready to be included in the KOS sourcetree. A preliminary binary release is still on the schedule.

DCDEV: Some updates
Posted: November 04th, 2001 @ 09:32

As you see by the recent lack of updates I'm relatively busy these days but I hope that the situation resolves soon.

I will also release a binary release of sndoggvorbis hopefully later today so that those who want to use it later on can get a glimpse of it. The API should not change from the current release to the final release (in which for it will also be merged into the KOS tree).

Seeking is not yet working and sadly I didn't work on the library anymore since the last post about it (so this counts for roughly two weeks). As soon as there's some spare time I'll get on getting seeking to work.

I will also make some first tests with the SPU DMA transfer included in the current CVS version of KOS. (for those interested in the latest developments in KOS should use the CVS anyways).

Ogg/Vorbis is heading towards a RC3 release of the libraries. I will change the core decoder library used by sndoggvorbis as soon as the RC3 or final sources are being released by Xiph.org !
