Playstation 2™ Modchip and DVD Ripping
Posted: August 5th, 2001 @ 01:27

For a long time the Playstation 2™ was known to be not easily moddable (to play backups or self-burned dev-cd's) until some clever guys found a way to use the normal PSX modchip in the PS2 to boot up PS2 backups using a normal swap with the now so famous Action Replay (Gameshark in the U.S.) cheat CD's.

The first batch of titles were released on normal (but blue-layered) CD's but as the chip situation on the PS2 grew clearer more and more titles were pressed on DVDs. Now, almost all new titles are released on DVDs which no longer are as easy to backup as CD's.

Here is where the ripping comes in. The process of ripping means downsizing the game-data (by deleting or substituting not necessary files - gameplay-wise) and burning the backup on a CD which then can be loaded using the swap with ActionReplay.

This part of my site will concentrate on how to start ripping your own games and will also feature self-written tutorials (along with tools) to rip specific games.

NOTE:
I do not support piracy in any way, so don't bug me if you are searching sites for ISOs of games or anything illegal. The informations provided here are merely for educational and backup purposes.
