NEWS - SEPTEMBER 2001

KallistiOS can now be found on CVS
Posted: September 26th, 2001 @ 10:49

Dan Potter uploaded the latest release (1.1.3) of his Dreamcast OS KallistiOS along with some bugfixes to the CVS at Sourceforge. You can visit the project page here.

This is the 1.1.3 base release including the following patches (taken from the changelog from the CVS repository):

  • Store-queue support
  • New and improved matrix math routines
  • Path to KGL to clip polygons with bad w value
  • Path for serial I/O with DC-Load
  • Path to fix GL_QUADS constant
  • ftan support (including KFL usage)
  • Fix for iso_ioctl

The version in CVS is said to be 1.1.3 with some fixes but the Changelog states it's 1.1.4.

Dreamcast DC-Load Upload Tutorial Posted
Posted: September 25th, 2001 @ 22:49

As I said I also uploaded the tutorial for uploading Dreamcast ELF Files over the Serial Link via the DC-Load package. This method of upload is much faster than Serial-Slave but has no working console-output yet.

The only things missing now for running the compiled binaries is upload via BroadBand Adapter (won't come soon since I have no access to a Broadband Adapter) and making bootable CD-ROMs from your binaries which will come later this week or this weekend.

You find the current upload-tutorials overview here.

I also finished the firstexample.c tutorials in the Dreamcast section. I doubt that it is useful for anyone but just in case you haven't seen too much of C yet it goes through a simple sample code line-by-line.

Dreamcast Upload Tutorial Posted
Posted: September 25th, 2001 @ 14:54

I just uploaded a very small and brief tutorial on how to upload self-coded binaries to the Dreamcast. As of now this tutorial only features the Coders Cable and Marcus Comstedts Serial Slave.

I will later add the DCLoad-Serial and DCLoad-IP (for the Broadband Adapter) upload methods which are faster but not able to be done via a Graphical User Interface.

You may grab the small tutorial here.

Playstation 2 Development proceedings
Posted: September 20th, 2001 @ 22:06

I am in the early steps of compiling a GCC 3.0.1 compiler for the Emotion Engine processor and the IO-Processor (which is mainly the core CPU of the PSone) from the official GNU sources. The compilation seemed to work but tests have shown that the build was corrupt. I will post as soon as I get a real working GCC compiled for the PS2 processors. (there are also pre-compiled binaries of these compilers built from the 2.95 tree of GCC available)

There also surfaced a (still extremely basic) open-source PS2 library (written by Gustavo Scotti) on the internet. It doesn't offer any advanced features, but it's a start into the right direction.

You may grab this library here.

Complete DVD conversion section in new design
Posted: September 20th, 2001 @ 21:31

The complete DVD Conversion section is now converted to the new design and also proof-read and some tutorials have been changed to reflect new codec versions.

Dreamcast Development Section corrected and updated
Posted: September 17th, 2001 @ 16:03

I revisited the Dreamcast Development section and fixed some of the tutorials that can be found there. Apparently the people at Cygnus made some significant bugfixes in Cygwin so that now we're able to compile a GCC again using the most recent Cygwin versions.

The cross-compiler compilation tutorials now reflect the new sources (like GCC 3.0.1)and also the new Cygwin. I got the whole SH4 and ARM toolchains to compile last night and finally compiled KallistiOS 1.1.3 today.

I also added some missing parts of this tutorial. It now features getting the whole development kit compiled up to and including KallistiOS.

New focus on Playstation2 development at hangar-eleven.de
Posted: September 15th, 2001 @ 14:01

I am focussing the contents of this site more to the PS2 development (but I will still cover every important information on DVD Ripping).

So far not too much information is available on how to program the PS2. I will type up everything I've learned so far (including instructions on how to get a GCC crosscompiler running for the EmotionEngine). I will no longer make anything in the range of PS2 Game Ripping.

If anyone has information I don't have yet on registers, API calls or anything of that nature please feel free to contact me.

And although all of us have to go on with our lifes, our thoughts are still with the victims in New York and Washington.

Modified Version of RiOFXP released
Posted: September 15th, 2001 @ 13:21

I mainly changed some of the sourcecode of RiOFXP (which's official homepage can be found @ http://duncanthrax.net/riofxp/) to my liking but I thought that perhaps some people might be interested in using it for their RiO500.

The original driver package (called Rio 500 support) has to be installed.

You can find the binary package here.

New version of DVDx 1.4 got released
Posted: September 9th, 2001 @ 19:04

Just after I wrote and posted my DVD->(S)VCD tutorial, a new version of DVDx got released. The version of DVDx jumped from 1.3 to 1.4.

Here are the major changes in this version:

  • Better audio/video synchronization
  • Better video resizing filter (higher quality and more speed)
  • Multipass support for plugins (now you can use TMPGEnc or BBMPEG)
  • New faster 3Dnow routines (making things faster for AMD users)
  • As usual in software design: several bugs got fixed

You may download DVDx1.4 here.

English DVD->(S)VCD Guide online
Posted: September 8th, 2001 @ 00:05

I finally came around to write up the DVD->(S)VCD Guide. I covered it in more detail than I firstly wanted and I do hope the pictures also give you an idea how to configure the tool.

Tests with VideoCD and SuperVideoCD worked on the Yamakawa DVD Player of a friend of mine.

You can find the tutorial here (including the download link for the software) or in the DVD Conversion section.

WindowsXP Theme for WindowBlinds
Posted: September 8th, 2001 @ 22:16

I know, this has nothing to do with the topics of my website, but there's a WindowBlinds theme available that gives your Win9x/2k this specific, and perhaps a bit colorful, WindowsXP look'n'feel.

You can download the theme here.
And WindowBlinds can be downloaded and bought at Stardock.

First impression of new QNX-like design online
Posted: September 7th, 2001 @ 00:26

As a first glance of the new QNX-like design, I already changed the newspage to reflect this new outfit (all subsequent pages are still using the old design). It might still undergo some minor changes but the major concepts stay.

As for the planned DVD->(S)VCD Guide (which is now confirmed after successful test-burns without frame-drops or hissing sound of two converted movies), I hope to be able to post it later this week or this weekend.

Addendum:
Now also the PS2RiP-Section is converted to the new design. Take a look

DVD -> (S)VCD Guide coming soon...
Posted: September 2nd, 2001 @ 22:15

I will put a guide to DVD->(S)VCD transcoding online soon. It will feature full explanations and pictures of the single-steps needed to perform the whol conversion.

I hope to get this tutorial online later this week (this will be a premiere since this is the first tutorial written parallel in English and German language)
