DivX 4.0 Codecs released...
Posted: August 22nd, 2001 @ 21:06 By: Thorsten Titze

DivXnetworks release the 4.0 final release of their DivX Codec. It features downward compatibility to MPEG4v3 (a.k.a. DivX 3.x since this codec was nothing more than a hacked MPEG4v3 and can therefore not be called a technology invented by DivX Technologies !!).

It is faster than other previous builds, features a 2-pass encoder and looks extremely promising (but is still based on the ISO MPEG4 sources).

The direct link to the Codec is here.

IFO Parser VOB Concatenation FlaskMPEG Plugin...
Posted: August 9th, 2001 @ 20:15 By: Thorsten Titze

It seems that the newer releases of FlaskMPEG are missing some substantial features (like IFO Parsing and VOB Concatenation). There has been a plugin release to fix this. Just download the package and unpack the thunder.mism.flask into your FlaskMPEG directory.

The direct link to the Plugin is here.

NOTE:
I also added this plugin to my distribution of the XiS release of FlaskMPEG. So if you're download the XiS release here you already get the plugin with it !!

The direct link to the tutorial is here.

FlaskMPEG Tutorial updated...
Posted: August 8th, 2001 @ 20:53 By: Thorsten Titze

I updated my Tutorial on using FlaskMPEG for recompression of DVDs to the new XiS version (now the tutorial also includes pictures of all the steps).

I hope I'll be able to check all the tutorials later this week for inconsistencies with newer version and update all tutorials with pictures.

The direct link to the FlaskMPEG tutorial is here.

WindowsMediaVideo FlaskMPEG Plugin...
Posted: August 5th, 2001 @ 23:27 By: Thorsten Titze

For all those who want to use the WindowsMedia V7 and V8 (only WindowsAudio V8) when reencoding their DVDs there is a WMV Export Plugin for FlaskMPEG (also works with the XiS30e release).

You can download the WMVExport Plugin here.

New FlaskMPEG Version released (XiS3.0e) ...
Posted: August 5th, 2001 @ 12:02 By: Thorsten Titze

I just got word that a new version of FlaskMPEG has been released (this is no official release by Alberto Vigata !!). This version is based on the official 0.6 preview release by Alberto.

The new binary now uses some resizer routines from DVD2AVI which result in a lot better performance when encoding movies.

  • YUV support (therefore eliminating the need to to YUV->RGB->YUV conversion).
  • New resizer (from DVD2AVI resulting in better performance).
  • More stable exception handling
  • Some GUI improvements

I will check the new version myself later today and will report about performance issues and what has been changed. If it is really more stable I will update all FlaskMPEG tutorials in the MPEG4 section to this new version.

You can download FlaskMPEG-XiS3.0e here.

Addendum @ 12:31:
After a first test with this new release I can state that this new FlaskMPEG release seems to be as fast as MPEG2AVI. I will surely update my FlaskMPEG Guide to reflect this new version later today.

Dreamcast Section back on-line...
Posted: August 5th, 2001 @ 11:22 By: Thorsten Titze

It just occured to me 10 minutes ago that I did not upload the newest Dreamcast update to my site. (this update is not even new). So now you'll find a complete guide on how to compile the GCC-Toolchain for Dreamcast Platform on the Dreamcast Console Dev Section.

The direct link is here.

New version of ISOBUSTER released...
Posted: August 5th, 2001 @ 10:52 By: Thorsten Titze

A new version (0.99.7.1) of the CD Extraction Tool ISOBUSTER has been released which is said to use a new reading engine. This tool is useful for reconstructing CD Layouts from original DVD's.

My LBATABLE toolset (PS2 Downloads) heavily depends on the filelist.txt that Isobuster provides since it uses the LBAs that Isobuster extracts for searching the LBATable in the binary.

You can grab it here.
The official homepage of this tool is here.

First PS2 content is online...
Posted: August 4th, 2001 @ 1:20 By: Thorsten Titze

Finally I got some first PS2 content online. Sadly nothing of it has anything to do with PS2 development, but we will get there. So far my PS2 coverage covers the basic functionality and usage of the NEO2.2 modchip plus some tutorials on how to rip PS2 DVD Games to CD's (including some tutorials on ripping generally).

Of course with all this material the usual disclaimer is still valid. Do not use any material provided here to reproduce copyright material for any other purposes than safety-backup.

The PS2RIP section is temporarily linked to the Sony Playstation 2 Link on the left navigational bar. As soon as real PS2DEV content goes online this link will be substituted.
